Roxi's Mountain

Roxi's Mountain

A Story by ben

Right as Benny eases to a stop in front of the barricade, Vincent climbs out in a hurry. Having the driver side window partway down, what comes to mind is Uncle Red saying the cold he is feeling is evil breathing down his neck. Thinking Uncle Red might be right this time, puts a cigarette between his lips and gets out. Pausing long enough to light up, walks over to the barricade. Be here before sunrise if you want to save Jane. He’s here. So, where are you? And where’s Jane? With nobody around to answer him, he sees Vincent walking towards him. “Looks like we got stood up.”

“Sorry, man.”

“We should go.”

“Might as well finish your smoke.” Benny looks at the cigarette halfway gone. He might as well.

“Tell you what, I’ll pick up the tab at Shirley’s if your wanting breakfast. It’s the least I can do.”

Having the best hot cakes in town, the three-egg scrambler is mighty fine too. “Whenever you’re ready.”
