my own path, my own truth

my own path, my own truth

A Poem by Beren
"

Keith left the site, and this is for everyone who speaks bravely like him.

"
I believe that people exist with their values
I am not a slave to my ideas,
I am their owner
That is why they can change
 But values determine my colors
If I am too afraid to stand behind them, I do not trust myself.

Not everyone will walk the same path as me
We will not wear the same colors with all my loved ones
We will all carry different shells of different ideologies
and this is how our world will be enriched

There will be fractures where fear and insecurity shine
 And our paths will diverge

I will exist with my values.
I will believe that goodness can grow a flower
And that I cannot be the best in every story.

There were times when i cursed the boys I used to kiss, with the same mouth.
There were times when I cried and begged at the gravestones,
and there were times when I came back saying "there is nothing here"

At the end of the day, I always stayed with myself.
Because no one else combed my hair as much as I did
No one loves all my favorite songs.
No one knows me better than I do
And I'm here with my own book and pen
Whether it works or not

I don't want to hide from the sun in the shadow of someone else's courage,
I'm going to go out into the sun.
 Whether you come or not

Beren, your poem "My own path, my own truth" is a beautiful meditation on personal growth, individuality, and the courage to stand by one's own beliefs. The metaphor of colors and paths illustrates the diversity of human experience and the importance of authenticity. The acknowledgment of fear and insecurity, and the acceptance of divergence, adds a layer of depth to the narrative of self-discovery.

The lines about past loves and personal growth are particularly poignant, reflecting on the bitterness that can accompany change and the ultimate strength found within oneself. The assertion of independence and the desire to face the sun without the shadow of another's courage is inspiring. It's a powerful declaration of self-love and self-reliance.

Keep up your amazing work, your writings are truly a pleasure to read. :)

I like your words and your philosophy, Beren. We are taught values by our parents and we incorporate additional ones as we experience life. They shape the person we become and choose to be. I think staying true to our values and true to ourselves is the only way to live in personal harmony. The strength in your words finely illustrates the character you possess. Always be yourself.

I liked how these lines picked up momentum as I read them. This poem also reminded me of something I read a few days ago. This line from The Enchiridion by Epictetus has always stuck with me: “Don't explain your philosophy. Embody it.” Your poem reminded me of it.
