No one Belongs to Istanbul

No one Belongs to Istanbul

A Poem by Beren

No one belongs to Istanbul
Lives going between two parts
Middle Ages to the New Age
Istanbul has always been stuck
in between
and halfway
It has room for new beginnings but
has not found a place for itself

Brought lovers together
But the best breakup poems have been written there
No one left Istanbul without tears
but still
Istanbul belongs to no one

Istanbul is alone among the people
It loses itself in the traffic jam
It reaches the other continent without getting drunk
By ferry, train or running over bridges

Istanbul takes in
all the loveless children
It paints all the souls to songs
And leaves them back
To quieter, calmer
And happier cities

Istanbul was not made to belong to anyone.
Its destined to be lonely in crowds.

Aww! Glad to hear that you were in my hometown! Hope you visit again! Thank you!

I have lost track of the number of times I have visited over a great many years .. I rarely choose to go back anywhere more than maybe just a couple of times but Istanbul is quite the exception .. Neville
