mellowed secret

mellowed secret

A Poem by Beren

I have a glass in my hand
Filled with the tears of my screams
I'm drinking till I throw up
So maybe I can leave my sunken past inside of me

There are kisses in my skin
From the loves I can't erase
I'm washing, until my skin peels
So maybe I can wash my old promises

I'll tell you a secret
Known only by a stranger on the subway,
A poet lives in a far country,
My highschool desk mate.
Even though they are expired,
the taste of the secret has always been the same
My secret mellowed till I find your lips

Don't mind the time and promises they didn't allow me to keep
If they had let me, I would've held each of their hands
To help me write poetry
To give me a reason to pour my abandoned feelings onto a paper

Now you are teaching me who I am
Truly, I've always written poetry to fall in love,
And I couldn't say a single word to you.

"My secret mellowed till I find your lips". I love this line and the image it gives me. An image of passion and of exploding worlds, of melting hearts, and then of a calm where "abandoned feelings" are no more. With a meeting of lips like this, who needs words? Though to be honest, I think this kiss would inspire a thousand poems. SIGH! Okay, back to reality, ;0) I think it is often true of poets, they write beautifully of promises, love, emotion and definitely kisses of passion, but perhaps are silent when face to face with the one they desire. Perhaps, too, it is overwhelming to realize that it has been all those unkept promises and many kisses that have allowed us to become who we are, and that is scary because it means opening our hearts to the possibility that we just might "fall in love".

A very minor critique, if I may. In that 2nd to last line, perhaps it might better read as "Truly, I always write poetry to fall in love". Or, "Truly, I've always written poetry to fall in love". Just a suggestion.

I always love reading your poems Beren.

Mellowed secret indeed...

This is one of the best poems I have read on the cafe to date my WC friend.....

Well written, emotional and you take the reader on a journey here...

These are my favourite lines:

If they had let me, I would've held each of their hands
To help me write poetry
To give me a reason to pour my abandoned feelings onto a paper

And I too have always written poetry to "fall in love" with someone....

Thanks for sharing....

Love is sometimes difficult but always worth the effort. But I wouldn't worry about putting it into words because actions are all that matters when it comes to love. My mother was fond of saying, "Don't tell me you love me. Show me."

Love and poetry are made for each other. Intertwined with each other and as important as the air we breathe.
These words are from the heart of a true poet.

Aww such sweet words! Thank you so much for your precious time!
The mix of pain, nostalgia, and unspoken love is powerful, and the “poetry to fall in love” line quietly breaks the heart.
