Chains of Shame

Chains of Shame

A Poem by Brandon Mathis

What a shame,

You blame a life you can't change

And that you won't let him be a man

You just can't understand

What you don't want to understand

Just give this man one chance

let him breathe on his own

 Give him back his soul

 Let him break free

Let him break his chains of shame

He only wants to be the same

How long will you let him fade?

Give him the chance to change

Don’t let his world go to hate

 So turn around

And stop giving him the blame

 Look deep in his eyes

Can’t you see that he is deprived?

He’s trying so hard to fit in

 He wants to be something

 He’s never been

He just wants to have a life

So give it back to him

Can’t you see that he has been broken?

Another life gone to another sin

How do you expect him not to give in

To the shame of chains that you set on him?

Everyone has different interpritations for this poem... Mine is that the man is you, or even lots of different people, or the whole world, and the person who is sort of holding them down, in a sense, is societly. This poem, to me, is about the worl smothering us in styles and make up and what-the-popular-kids-are-like. Personally, i'd like to me a poplar- kid. I baby tree. Trees have no worries. But now I'm rambling, this poem was great because it got such a long review out of me.

Well worded Brandon. It's hard to break free after someone has been beating the happiness out of your heart and soul for a long time. A great piece of writing indeed ^_^

thank you it was an old one that i really liked so i put it up
Wow, very good message in this poem. We all make mistakes, but if we allow shame to hold us down, and if others keep assuming we can never change, we never will. We will just wallow in guilt. Nicely done!

awww..i love you too sis and this is a old poem that i revised
You tell'em! In my mind this would be about a relationship gone awry and the man is just all 'back off and let me be who I am not an imitation" if that's not what you were going for then ignore me haha, I'm not the best at poem interpretations. I did enjoy it though, nice write :)
