i was a muse

i was a muse

A Poem by ashley

you wrote to me a poem
like nobody else has.
the words you used
they pierced my heart;
all cherry-picked and intentional.

i wouldn't have imagined
that we would drift away so fast
but life got in the way
and clouded my heart.

and i'm always thinking back
on the way you used to talk to me
and the way that you would laugh
the way you'd take my time up
and make me feel loved.

you weren't a waste of time
you just proved to me that i can be loved
without being touched,
but somehow i'm still warm.

your words, so sweet
i could almost taste them on my tongue.
your words, so heavy
that gravity pulled me down to its core.

do i miss being seen?
do i miss breathing in your soul?
every word spoken between us
felt like electricity through water.

my whole body caves
as i think of missing you.
i recoil at your name
but i miss it on my lips.
