Strange burdens no one knowsA Poem by Davidstrictly fictional. The heart is ripped out and held in the hand, It pumps out all life and deflates, And still I walk seeing the candy filled gutters, Where the ragamuffins dance, The cellophane wrappers cutting their feet, Nearby a man is beaten to death with a fish. Put the streetwalkers back in the pantry, For when the guineas and lepers come, They will want a piece to rip off; The sun burns my skin and it flakes off, In my mind it is snowing, People freeze to death. I am hollow, A rabid duck came by, Bit at the crusts from my hands, The children grab a stick, Play the dead man’s ribs like a xylophone, Night comes and I am dirt.
Being pushed onto a silver platter, Served to those who don’t care whether you live or die, The heart weighs heavy and I fall, Into a chasm of rubber balls, If only the cliff were there instead of the Ferris wheel, My soul is swept sent out with the trash, On the plus side I found my childhood again.
These are strange burdens no one must know or experience, For you could wind up dead, Or possibly alive. © 2009 David |
