A Prisoner’s Soliloquy

A Prisoner’s Soliloquy

A Poem by Kimi
"

I wrote this in high school after reading a play by Shakespeare... but I can't remember which play it was. Anyways it was quite fun to write it :)

"

To be or not to be --- that is the question:

Whether ‘tis nobler to accept thy fate

And stand behind impenetrable bars of sentence,

Or to grasp the hope that death is near, for salvation.

To believe time is up and peace will soon set thy graces upon thee --- To fear, to sleep ---

There is nothing more --- And by a darkness do we escape the pain.

The constant beating of the brains and regret of the mind

Anger caged inside, with no way out --- ‘Tis a cruel torture,

Praying for what does not exist. To fear, to sleep ---

To sleep, perchance to never wake again. Ay, there’s the dream,

For in that end of life there is no more emptiness

Only calm thoughts and Angels’ songs.

Rest, rest, bless me now. Restore my nerve

For this makes my freedom real.

Who could last the bloody wrath of time and day,

Th’ Warden’s orders, a criminal’s crime,

The lost warmth of love, the law’s ill will,

The constant dying motivation, absorbed by hard walls.

When this judgment  seems to slip away

Who will notice? Who will care?

To cry and sweat away the unknown test of life,

But dread the remainder after.

The new world from which Devils hide,

With no paths charted or survivors heard from again

Makes terrible play with inner thoughts.

Worn hands, beaten body, old tools

What now as sunlight glows?

The heart pounding for a second chance,

Crawling, crawling in endless earth,

No sounds to show life or nature’s existence.

But as courage grows, actions do follow

With the accord to achieve  the goal

And lose all fear. --- Hear me now,

Beautiful light. --- Goddess of freedom

Let all my sins be purged.
