A Broken Wing

A Broken Wing

A Poem by Caitlin Lea

A broken wing
Does hurt gay bird.
Her soaring stopped
A while.

Her tattered feathers
Don't fly now.
Her bones a-shattered
Pain her.

The wing itself
Does not the flying,
Although she's stuck
On ground.

Her soul departs
And lifts, flies on
For you cannot quench
Spirit.

Soon she heals
Enough to try
A trip in skies
Anew.

She aches a little
And thinks to stop
But wind goes on
With her.

Astonished, she finds
The sky is blue
The earth not changed
A bit.

Perhaps her wing,
Though broke and torn
Still carries her
Through air.

And now it is stronger
Once repaired
Not broken so easily
Next time.
