Nothing Is Always Something

A Stage Play by caitlinrosecyr

Samantha: What do you have there?

Tony: Why are you wearing pearls?

Samantha: I just left a party. Is that a letter?

(she smiles)

Tony: No.

Samantha: Why, what is it then?

Tony: It’s nothing you need to concern yourself with young lady.

Samantha: My name’s Samantha. I was just wondering, I  was trying to start conversation, you know.

Tony: Yes, I know.

Samantha: Well, if it’s nothing, why can’t I see?

Tony: If it’s nothing, why would you want to see it?

Samantha: Nothing is always something, sir.

Tony: But is it really?

Samantha: Nothing is just a lie to cover things up. Now let me see!

(she grabs paper from his hands)

(he stands up, yells)

Tony: WERE YOU RAISED IN A BARN?!

Samantha: No, sir. But it’s blank.

Tony: I told you it was nothing.
