my father

my father

A Poem by orchid

I guess I've always known
Ever since I was very young
That I could never
Be half as strong
As you.

You were my hero, always and forever.
Epic stories;
All of them things you evaded, people you fought,
Those you outsmarted, journeys you embarked on.

You said I was little then; I would do the same, eventually.
But I'm still little; I have not grown strong.
Not even a third of your strength is with me.
I would do the same things as you if I had even half the strength.

You tell me you'll do things with me.
Shoot the bow, help my aim, hunt, fight.
You tell me you will do these things and help me grow stronger.
But I don't think I could ever be as good as you.

My father, the one constantly going, going, going.
The one I unfortunately look up to.
The one who in my eyes, is truly legendary.
The one who has everything I lack.

My father, who I look at and see stars.
My father, who I just want to look at me
For once
In this scary life.
