A Drunken Deceiver

A Drunken Deceiver

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(how about a sing a long)

"
A drunken deceiver she found she had wed,
who cast her off lightly like sheets from the bed.
He promised to love her till the end of their days,
but left her crestfallen, dejected, dismayed.

So fickle and two faced he turned out to be,
said often for her that he'd die willingly.
He wooed her so warmly and pledged his life true,
till out of the window his amour it flew.

He soon found another, her attention he sought.
Whose embers were fanned till ignited they caught.
No turning back now as trapped by new heat,
with lover expecting, he daren't get cold feet.

His wife now grows stronger with the passing of time,
while husband still frets reputation in slime.
His doleful eyes saddened look high on green fence,
he's made his own bed, it's too late to repent.

Oh, this is a statement about empowerment. Both women get stronger, and the amoral guy who would sink so low as to replace someone shrivels into a spineless caricature of himself. :):). Please, please post this on I am Woman!!!

Some pieces are movement makers. In my opinion, this is one of them.

Unfortunately, this is a story which happens way to often. I've had many people I care about hurt by these type of people and even I myself have been hurt in this way. I love the way that you've described and captured the pain
as well as the strength you get when moving on. Thank you for sharing such an extraordinary gift. Looking forward to reading more of your pieces.

The progression and change from the hurt to the mood of him being the sorry one. So much power and strength shows at the end of this. Love it!

Well, he did make his own bed, so he can just bloody lie in the mess of his own making. It's good to know that when we are wronged, karma never forgets :)

Was a pleasure.
A stark snapshot of a bleak moment but maintaining the dignity of the narrator by exposing the irony of who is really the victim when trust is offended

Lost in his ignorance,
he wonders how the wife has grown strong.
Many excuses come to his head,
but it is the future he does dread.

No wife,
and while some avoid the rumors.
some look at him with an honest eye.
No longer what she said.

I seriously read this like a sea chanty! Very cleverly written; I am particularly fond of this rhyme choice:
"He soon found another, her attention he sought.
Whose embers were fanned till ignited they caught."
Thank you for sharing this awesome sing-along!

so now he rides away into the sunset searching for that heat,
meanwhile his wife back at the ranch already under the sheets.
the moral of this story is very true,if you fool around on her,
she will fool around on you...

Truth be told, no deceiver stays happy after deceiving the woman he had committed to. Never works out. Some of us learn the hard way.
