Of all the flora I have grown,
there's one self-seeding I adore,
that brings in spring its powder blue
to fill the spaces inbetween
red tulips and gold daffodils.
Their tiny yellow centred heads,
create a splash in garden beds.
So loved by Beth when she was six,
she picked a posy for her Dad
to take to his last resting place.
Forget him not is what she said,
and who was I to disagree,
so when she left them lovingly
beneath the branches of a tree
with innocence she paused to say
'my Daddy does remember me'.
Wow, amazing how she can remember her dad that young, but even if she didn't get to really interact with him, she must have been told what a great dad he was...and she will have memories of him forever... a poignant poem with lots of color and warmth....
Warmly, B

This is incredibly moving. The way you use the flowers, the self-seeding blooms, the tulips and daffodils. Creates such a tender, vivid picture of memory and love enduring beyond loss. Beth’s innocence and the way she connects with her father through these simple, beautiful gestures really stays with me. You’ve captured grief, remembrance, and hope all at once, and it reads like a quiet, compassionate embrace.

Chris, this is a beautifully tender poem. I love how you use the forget-me-not flowers as a symbol of memory, love, and connection, especially through Beth’s innocent and heartfelt gesture.
The imagery of the spring garden and the tiny blue blooms creates a gentle, vivid backdrop for a moment that is both bittersweet and full of love. My sympathies go out to Beth and to those who has experienced such a loss..it’s a quiet, touching reflection on remembrance and the ways we hold those we miss in our hearts.

dearest Chris… my Father loved Shakespeare and helped me understand that when days are dark and dreary… it is just the Shadow of an Angels Wing watching over you. Your Poem is touching a Cherub Cloud on a Summers day. softly, Pat

Having two daughters myself this one touched a chord with the thoughts of the little girl adamantly making her dad’s memory remember her.
Some things you don’t get over.

Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
