A Poem by Chris Shaw

look into the open heart
of a camellia in full bloom

what do you see within
the strata of soft silk perfection

a loveliness like a chirping bird at dawn
the glory of a new spring morning

a warning that life is fleeting
and that all too soon too soon

the raindrop nested tween petals
of a fine full skirted red dress

will let out a sigh at the
inevitable downturn and demise

yet even in death the old paving
is blessed with its gentle petal fall

scattered crimson confetti
tinctured with a fringe of decay

Good evening. It was wonderful to read your poem, Chris. The metaphors applied here are beautiful to say the least. I feel this captures the priceless worth of natural gifts set in impermanence. Beauty that decays, yet while doing so grants reality's wisdom, showing the glory of the cycle of life and death. I understand that the comforting spring season has come into bloom in your parts, and hope that you bask in its delight. Where I am though, the blazing tropical summer has already set in, with temperatures of 40 C being commonplace now, haha.
Cheers, Rik.

A gentle poem on what many see as a dark subject but what I prefer to see as you as a natural process that can be as beautiful as all of the rest. I sensed a calmness in reading this poem and felt how even in leaving this existence that petal we leave behind, in memories, written words, or other art can be beautiful and a vision to others. A great message said so tenderly and poetically

Time devours all...
Some say it is a cycle of death and rebirth.
As nature goes through change and seasons.
Yet nature can have beauty in all forms, even in decay.
A touching poem.
