Flowers for Khalisee

Flowers for Khalisee

A Poem by Chris Shaw

Kai sows seeds
from a paper packet
a promise of new beginnings
little fingers delve in
warm compost

plastic pots in the greenhouse
soil watered and ready
sunflowers for his sister
special seeds
not the usual splash of
sunny yellow skirts
these will bloom in pretty pink
for his precious sibling

necks will stretch
to reach powder blue sky
heads will turn in the direction
of sun’s glory as it travels
through the days of summer

small boy of five
plants wishes for the new
arrival in his family
three weeks old she
ignites his liquid brown eyes
with love

dirt covered hands
wet socks and shoes
a heart brimful of sunshine

flowers for his Khalisee

Such a happy scene you paint dear Chris.. I love the little fingers dabbling in the dirt, something he is proud of and joyous about the arrival of his little sister... such love and emotion...you express in this lovely piece...the new beginning of a flower and the new beginning of his sibling all tied in a pretty knot...
Bravo!
Warmly, B
PS hope you are well

A lovely poem; congratulations on the new arrival.
An apt teaching moment for the child to plant and watch grow plus a good metaphor how children grow eventually.
Awesome!

All is well. Thank you kindly. You are welcome.
This is lovely...I reach for the blue sky as well, but like a short flower...it's only a dream for as long as I can bloom.
Great imagery and conciseness of lines.

Whata lovely gesture from big brother to little sis. She'll be able to watch them grow as she grows and think "my brother made them for me!" 😃

Ah, how the innocence of childhood greets new life with no negative preconceptions. May he maintain this attitude for as long as possible.

Hi Chris - I enjoyed this very much. I believe there is a character in 'Game of Thrones' named 'Khalisee'. Is that yr reference ? I hear 'Game of Thrones' is an Excellent Show, altho' I have never watched it personally. JRR Tolkien has a lot to answer for ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

A deeply emotional and heartfelt poem here my WC friend..:)

The concept of nature and seeds growing ...and the young boy waiting to see the fruits of his work....

My favourite stanza:

small boy of five
plants wishes for the new
arrival in his family
three weeks old she
ignites his liquid brown eyes
with love

Packed full of images and feelings..
