Chimes

Chimes

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(It has been years since an ice cream van ventured our way)

"
while we languished on our deck
in lazy evening sun
pink begonias and trailing ivy
spilling from hanging baskets
the blue bird of happiness hovered
above our heads
plastic with a light elastic bounce
suspended from a wooden beam

he makes me smile
he must have heard the musical notes
floating on warm air breeze
the sound of chimes
an ice cream van stirred
our tastebuds
caterpulting back in time
memories of mine
melting melting away
the cares of the day

up got Rob rushed to
the garden gate
can’t be late
our Beth in tow
five cones with chocolate flakes
keep it simple Andy once said
we’re a long time dead

i’m so happy i heard her say
little things make her day
and who am i to disagree

"caterpulting" made me chuckle. there are some things in life that are universally loved: art, beauty, and ice cream. :)

Chris, it's been a while since we last visited, and this one is as good as any to pass some time with you, sharing such a fine memory we never once had together.
A fine look back at good times and laughter.
Thanks for bringing it all back in quiet splendid fashion!

Hiiii Chris!!

Such a nostalgic poem I really enjoyed it. The imagery in the beginning was so beautiful it sounded like a wonderful scene and then the ice cream truck came by adding to it.

Something about food that causes memories to flood. That and smelling something from the past. Like during the fall the s'mores coffee!! Even though there are no ice crean trucks in this area at least there are flavored coffees during the seasons.

Thanks for sharing!!

Anytime Chris!! 🤗🤗🤗🥰🥰🥰
The rhymes that ring out in our memories. It is best to remember the happiest of them, yet the others, like it or not are there too. It's good to be reminded that the good far outweighs the bad. Nice put

It is often the small things that reside in memories and give comfort to a person with a sense of being home. A lovely poem of such small comforts that make a day. Nicely done Chris

Dear Chris,

Small joys indeed make for big momets! I loved this blissful poem. During summers in childhood, we'd sleep in our courtyards. The ice-cream vendors would make rounds and goodness how exciting that would be. I was reminded of those happy, innocent days. Thank you for sharing those lovely, chocolate cones!
