Unswept

Unswept

A Poem by Chris Shaw

the stiff bristle brush
of the blue broom
missed the cobwebs clinging
to the outside corner of
the garden shed
leaving them to survive
another day

evening sunlight embraced
each silk thread in a fine display
of rainbow colour
a reminder that everything
has its moment
and nature has a finger tip touch
to golden reveries

This poem is delicate and beautiful. I love how it turns a small, quiet moment into something meaningful. The imagery of the cobwebs and sunlight feels peaceful and deep, like nature whispering its own wisdom.
Beautiful !

The cobwebs can wait another day eh? I went into my shed and found a rabbit hutch spider dangling from a thread in the center of the shed. They're sometimes called false widows because the resemble the Black Widow. It was very big, about the size of a nickle. He suffered an unfortunate mortal accident brought on by a case of instant but irrational arachnophobia.

Oh, I don’t like spiders either Fabian, but I am more likely to run a mile than tackle the problem.. read more
Love the appearance of cobwebs glistening with dewdrops ... not so keen on walking face first into one.
definitely hard to sweep away no matter what you use.

Good one Chris ... made me shudder just thinking about a cobweb clinging to my face.

Enjoyed it, Chris. I haven't been able to visit the library IT suite as often as I used and don't get all the time I'd like to comment; but I do manage to read a good few.

Those cobwebs are certainly having their moment of glory, dear Chris. Like everything does. Reading this poem, I am strongly reminded of verses from Ecclesiastes. Soon the dust of time will claim the cobwebs and all else with it. All we can do is accept it with grace, shine as long as we can and then fly away into the blessed unknown.

That's very beautiful. It reminds me of the beauty that nature holds. Like seeing a cobweb in the corner of a room. How intricate it is, is truly something. Thank you for sharing.

A lovely review Matthew. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts.

Chris
You painted a Movie
The sweeping out of the shed
Leaving the difficult corners > you need a soft brush, in order to squeeze into those.

But then the sunlight catches the fine cobweb threads creating a spectacle of colour

Love this Chris, and this is the kind of ordinary English domestic scene you excel with. God is in the detail, as the saying goes. Exceptional ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

I can identify with this scene, Chris, because July is cobweb accumulation month in southern Virginia. I can't wax poetic over the suckers, though. They've gummed up too many of my mops and brooms.
