today the sun shines brightly
the lake is filled with rain
the sparkle on the surface
is marred by pangs of pain
the river should flow easy
so gentle to the sea
yet all I feel is turbulence
and storm clouds over me
This couldn't possibly wear any other title could it .. You just nailed its namesake in general terms and to this particular page .. darn near perfect .. Neville

Chris, the honest emotion in this write really hit me. I hope nothing is wrong in your world....or at least that you can remedy it. The rhyming is great. Lydi**

I normally find my refuge in nature. Its wonderful how at times nature moves in the same way we do. For example I'll be sad enough to cry and then it rains, like my tears are being heard.
Hope things go better with you Chris.

Thank you for your very kind thoughts Kady. I appreciate you. All the best.
In perfect Ballad meter, via a-b-c-b rhymes, your poetic voice sings wonderfully strong, penetrating to one's very core.
Whether composed from a deeply personal relationship or unfortunate politico-social level, there's no doubt any one of us can relate to the throes (as you've so poignantly expressed) of brightest hope turned to dark dismay.
May destiny, on both sides of the pond, flow e'er gentle to the sea...🙏
I so respect and admire how your mind and heart works, and how astutely you wield your pen to express it.
Thank you sincerely for sharing You … Happy Autumn! ⁓ Richard 🍂

Yes, it's nice to have access to our Café pages one again, after more times inaccessible than I can count on two hands since first joining in January of 2008 as Rascal, when in September of that same year Charlie and Patrick (WC owners), while "improving" the site, irretrievably deleted every poem of every member's … I had over 600. It never was quite right again; so, I eventually joined another site. Then, having never really quit, I checked WC out in 2015, and finding it much improved joined again as Richard and have been here ever since.
Of all the times WC went down or was innecessible, this time has been the worse, and one can only hope and pray it either stays the same or improves.
Meanwhile, StarsRite seems a suitable alternative; yet, experience tells that no internet writing site is permanent.
Only time will tell ⁓ peace to thee, Dear Chris🕊

I don't write much now , just the odd thing and usually a bit ethereal, it must be my age lol.

Good to hear from you Stella. Take good care of yourself. 🌹
The contrast between the bright sun, the sparkling lake, and the storm inside beautifully captures inner turmoil. The final lines, with the river’s turbulence, leave a strong impression of struggle and unrest beneath the surface. Beautifully done.

I must apologize Chris for a lack of posting and responding lately. My server has blocked me from getting on this site until today. hopefully I will be able to catch up if I can continue to get on. This poem is lovely in its darkness, it is indeed like storm clouds in the sky. I can feel the oncoming storm, the lightning of pain and the thunder of the future. Very nicely written

Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
