My Father’s Daughters

My Father’s Daughters

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

I have a very poorly sister. Thinking of her today in her struggle. An old poem not published here before.

"
here are my sisters
laughing and smiling
surrounded by meadows
embraced by the sun
purple the loosestrife
tall above green grass
abundant white cowslip
as years have moved on

thankful am i
the eldest of siblings
the river flows downstream
now what of our dreams
some have proved fruitful
some best forgotten
some may still happen
we’re not out of steam

regardless the weather
we stick close together
in times when we’re happy
or days filled with sad
the lessons we’ve learned
we can not be broken
we’re here for each other
through good times and bad

Dear Chris,

This poem is so rich and replete in reflections, gratitude and joy. You touch all the things that matter so fully here. A sisterhood that's grown and matured, togetherness deepening over the years. You've seen the good and the bad, you've shared each other's lives and you're at a beautiful point now from where you can look back at the bittersweet days and stand blissful knowing you'll have each other in the future, come what may. Such bonds are blessed. They can help us face just about anything in life. I wish you a blessed future together with your loved ones.

Superbly penned, my friend.

The note indicating that this is an old poem and one of the sisters is not doing well now lends a bit of poignancy to this offering. Our fortunes and dreams are different at different times and may indeed change. I must believe, however, that the spirt highlighted in the last verse still generally pertains, and that this family is basically still rock solid.

This poem moves me to tears. I think of the relationship I finally have with my sister.
Always new beginnings...and our folks would have been pleased to see us now.
The second stanza is written so beautifully.
Your poems always have such heart.

Siblings are a blessing, someone to share your hopes and dreams with, someone to cry with when things get tough. The fear of losing one must be to lose a part of yourself Chris, i do feel for you at this time and your sisters.
