Concierto de Arunjuez

Concierto de Arunjuez

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(Classic radio permits)

"
dance like no one’s looking
how could i resist
embraced and seduced by Rodrigo
without a single kiss

guitar strings vibrate in classics
far away on wings of flight
detached from dishes at the sink
remember Spanish nights

toes escape their sandals
kick high in silver sand
multi layered floral skirt
flounces in my hand

hoisted by its black lace hem
exposed are sun shy thighs
the years have lost some lustre
the heart heaves out a sigh

dance like no one’s looking
while the breakfast eggs are cooking
dance like no one’s looking
and flash those grey green eyes

I've got this one - Concierto de Arunjuez - and haven't listened to it for ages. You have given me a kick. Yes, I'll play it very soon. Oh, lovely piece of poetry, especially for those who do know the piece.

There are three forms of art that stem from the person intimately, music, poetry and dance and in this poem you have united them. Music that stems from the first heartbeat in unison with our mother in the womb, poetry from the mind to the pen thoughts transmitted beauty on paper and dance the transformation of feeling into movement. A lovely threesome here Cris

I was until just now unfamiliar with this work you refer to, but given it's obvious impact on you our Chris that is a matter I felt compelled to rectify subito .. and now, having done so .. together with Ana Vidovic, I totally get where you are coming from .. How infinitely inspiring .. both the classic version and your most recently penned poem which incidentally .. is nowt short of brilliant .. Have a good un .. 💜

Your words complete the feelings I have when listening to this magical work. Tis wonderful to read your words and also to see John the Baptist's comment - I know next to no people offline that know this wonderful music! Am utterly and completely thrilled to know you both know and love its sound, the emotions it draws from the listener is inevitably more alive than one can imagine. Have heard and seen it being played in St Martins, London. Was even more touching, thrilling to watch the prime musician playing and feeling at the same time. Is a magical piece of music generally played by the finest musicians. Perhaps not the thing to say but.. I have asked for it to be played at my funeral. If it doesnt take me to a special place, nothing ever can.

Fine writing on your part, Chris:

Rodrigo's masterpiece is one of my favorite classical pieces. Loved the dance imagery you created for this one.

This poem has such a lovely, peppy beat to it! You carry the reader away. A flight albeit brief from a daily chore. So very relatable, dear Chris! Lovely imagery of the floral skirt, black lace and sun shy thighs and awesome rhyming. This is a poem to love absolutely! 💕

Lovely Piece Chris about a truly great Piece of Music. So many excellent versions of the Concerto as well - I can particularly recommend Miles Davis' Jazz Homage. Exceptional ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

What a great first line Chris. You should do everything like no one's looking, not only dancing. You should splash in puddles like no one's looking because somewhere you know a kid will be watching and sniggering at you while their mum tells them not to do that, which only makes them want to do it more!
You should talk to yourself like no one's looking too, because you wouldn't believe how clear the pavement/sidewalk gets when people see someone talking to themselves coming! 😀
But dancing like no one is looking is the free'est you can be and isnt that the point of dancing... to get some lost in the music you forget people are watching.
It is one of the truest times in your life, to lose yourself and be completely free.
It should become a movement, with t shirts printed and knowing looks between old folks like they've just discovered the secret to eternal youth... and they very well might have! 😀
