the dappled gold of sunlight
descends on weeping leaves
the trees are in a state of flux
in shades of inbetweens
the brushwood of this silver birch
sways gently to and fro
October air is cooling
my window pane aglow
filled with the autumn morning
with all a new day brings
the world continues spinning
and still the blackbird sings
your writing has a quiet beauty that's both comforting and alluring if I may be so bold.
its a style many seem to want to do but to my mind you do it better than most i have seen.
my own work is I'm afraid more vulgar and challenging a product of childhood more than likely.
your style I love to read but read and writing are two very different things.
i will certainly be reading more of your work when my mind needs calming .
best wishes from Yorkshire .

I love the calm, observant tone of this piece. The imagery of autumn sunlight, swaying trees, and the singing blackbird creates such a peaceful, reflective morning scene. Very serene and grounded—beautifully captured.

Chris, this is beautifully composed. It captures that fragile calm between seasons, where everything is changing but nothing feels rushed. I love how the sunlight and the blackbird tie the piece together, a quiet reminder that even in flux, the world still hums with grace. Really lovely work.

Yes, the trees are in a state of flux, just as we are. Streaks of gray and white begin to show in hair and beards in the autumn years. Yet new days continue to dawn and the world keeps on spinning. It's all a normal part of one great plan.

Ah, but Chris... we knower not what they sing of, despite its beauty. For all we know it might be a prayer screamed at all "of all the places in all the towns, we had to stop here! Slow down she said. Our feathers will protect us she said. And then realisation dawned of where we were.... Scotland, in winter!" 😀

Ha ha. Lorry your wacky responses make me smile. Have a great day.
"Blackbird singing in the dead of night, take these broken wings and learn to fly. All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arrive."
Beautiful poem...we seem to be having no fall here...no foliage...at least this poem gave me some.
thanks.

You must still be having plenty of good weather if there aren’t signs of autumn. This was written a couple of days ago, we have had nothing but rain since :)
Chris,
What a sweet escape into beauty! Every line just right to color my air right here, right now, and through my windows, the the dappled gold of sunlight sparkles on the leaves of my trees that are still green as ever, having not yet gotten the message that it s now October...

Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
