mild and moderate November
early sun yawns sleepy eyed
peeps through veiled cloud
casts golden on fallen leaves
a garden in waiting

shows various states of decay
scattered on crazy paving
a busy collage on uncut grass
green blades smothered
fighting for air

small boy in Halloween pajamas
doesn’t care for his warm coat
armed with a too large rake
it isn’t cold he says
work before breakfast eggs

son of his father
a pirate in a blue plastic boat
a treasure chest afloat
on a storm of autumn rainfall
so many moons ago
wet wet wet

This feels like one of those vivid memories that are all images and no words, so we have to come up with some so people know what it was like. Somehow, when this happens to me, I fail utterly. Yes, the visuals are there, but rarely carry the exact quality of light, or the aroma, or the way the shadow of trees dance on the ground... I think I relate to this so well because I know it is so packed with all the tiniest bits that just can't work this way... This is maybe my favorite of yours.

Boys all want to impress their dads and be like them too. "I-i-i-i-it isn't c-c-cold d-d-d-a-a-a-d-d-d" he would say, while wishing it was summer so he could take off his t shirt and show off his invisible muscles!
How do I know i hear you ask? Well stop interrupting and I'll tell ya! 😀
For i was that soldier many moons ago and they really should make junior rakes for non giants, but kids still struggle on like its just the right size and they'll zoom through it in a minute.
Plus, its always a great way to tease them when they're older. Even if he grows up to be a top lawyer and have a supermodel girlfriend! 😀
