Robin Song

Robin Song

A Poem by Chris Shaw

the last of leaves have fluttered down
a dying carpet covers ground
where once the scented flowers grew

yet there on naked branches stirs
the twitching of a little bird
its stature small its being felt

it sings its winter song for me
perched high atop its melody
a nest is found within my heart

i listen to those soulful notes
that chirp forth from a tiny throat
that carry on the early air

a living creature how it lifts
the joy of nature brings a gift
this morning has a sunshine start

Such a wonderful metaphor Chris and how we can with simply being who we are with cheerful note lift the souls of others. A most lovely write.

Hiiii Chrissss!!!

Love this poem. Something about the birds isn’t there. They really make the day better with their delightful chirping. Thanks for sharing such a heartfelt poem of the birds or in this case the Robin.

today as I looked out onto the back garden I saw a robin perch up on the fence . indeed your poem captures the beauty of this as I felt compelled to go outside to see it and listen.

I used to have many species of birds around my house in the mornings. Now, one of the last trees behind me has been taken down evicting birds and squirrels from their home. Your poem is beautifully written, Chris. It's what poetry is all about.

I hope the same for you, Chris. :)
Until i read this Chris i hadn't noticed but I haven't seen any robins thus far this year and they used to be regular visitors to my neck of the woods, pardon the pun.
Now im gonna have to put my investigation hat on and find out why, which will no doubt end in bad news, but mores for the poor robins. Unless of course the rumours are true and I do indeed smell! 😀
They used to always brightening my day with their minuscule size still thriving against a bigger and crueller world.
I know there is food that you can put out to tempt them your way, so I'll go google that to remind myself what I did but shouldn't have forgot.
Festive blessings on you and yours and hopefully less awful weather for you too, unless you're one of those weird is who likes snow! 😀
