today i saw a daffodil
shivering in the winter chill
and though the sky was summer blue
the whistle of the wind blew cold
this golden flower stood its ground
refused to bend refused to bow
i swear i heard a whisper then
this will not be the end of me
i thought of you and how you fought
through days of illness troubled nights
i thought of all the love you give
and then my heart felt reassured
the clock is not about to stop
your inner strength has found my pen
determined you will fight to live
Thomas here makes a very good point about the daffodil. I saw some strength there. Nice one, Chris.

Superb writing
Resilience inner strength and very emotional
It's all been said about the subject matter
I really enjoyed the flow
Almost tuneful
And those middle lines jumped out at me
Loved the whispering wind

This poem carries such gentle strength. The daffodil image is beautiful, and the way it becomes a reflection of someone you love feels very moving. The quiet resilience in these lines stays with you long after reading. A tender and hopeful tribute to courage in difficult times.

I remember we had blossoms growing on a large bush on the side of our yard. The last winter before the builders moved in, we had about 4 inches of snow and those blossoms were still out and blooming. Your poem reminded me of that and natures strength in adversity.
Great poem, Chris.

Chris, I would like to think the day you saw that little daffodil. It was a gift from God's hand to you, to renew your hope, your faith, your strength. I'm sure you will share that daffodil with the loved ones important to you.

The poem is meant to be hopeful but I find it sad. To me a flower speaks of the transience of life, the blooms after all last but a few days. The poem speaks of battling the mortality of life, a futile experience, death will take us at will. I know you have recently dealt with the illness of a loved one, I hope my comments do not seem disrespectful. At my age I often contemplate death, and I believe I am prepared to surrender.
Chris,
I agree, unless we leave a mark, we have not lived, and a pen was made for this very task... And I'm so glad, because caves are dark, and chiseling stone takes so very long... I remember one time there was a brilliant blue sky and I was driving into the sun when I came to an intersection and had to stop long enough to see some large daisy that had popped through the asphalt and stood proud, staring right into the face of Sol, arrogant in its delightful little delusion of grandeur.

Aw, Sweetheart, no need to apologize...thank you for taking a moment for me!
A metaphor of poetic beauty in a flower that is one of the first to raise through the ice and snow and bloom again. There is hope and determination in this poem Chris. A most lovely write in most poetic form. Well done.

Your poem compares the resilience of a daffodil standing against winter’s chill to a person enduring illness and challenges.
Expressing of nature (the daffodil) and personal struggle (illness), showing how both can symbolize hope, strength, and perseverance.
VERY WELL WRITTEN.
