And the Gold Goes To

And the Gold Goes To

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

( off the cuff )

"
my silver Citroen
my Picasso off the open road
how well you have served by miles
it’s almost twenty years since
we were first introduced
when i glanced your way
on the forecourt standing

how you enticed me to take a ride
sleek and gleaming
polished to perfection
you have been a constant
in my thankful life
taking me from a to b
In times of happiness and joy
in times of sadness and misery

you have been a comfort
and a friend
you have cushioned me
while i cried
been silent while i cursed
and never chastised me
when i sang too loud and off key

your roomy boot never groaned
as I stuffed you full of bagged shopping
and neither did I hear you moan
when I bought the garden
centre back home
compost spilling
plants stretching your patience
it’s time to say farewell
and i do so with a heartfelt sigh
and a tear in both of my grey eyes

Fabulous Chris - I guess some Cars can be like much loved Pets - but so so useful and convenient for all sorts of Journeys. You capture this so well. Exceptional ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

I had an Audi A4 when I first moved to the countryside and although it was great in the cities, I soon traded it in for a van that could handle the bumps and bruises of countryside roads a bit better than my "having a temperature tantrum Audi" every time I went up a country lane.
So although I love your piece about that love that people feel for their transport, I only have eyes for my van now! 😀
Plus, im more used to it because I drive a similar type for my work too, although I do promise it every time I drive that my work van doesn't mean a thing to me and that im only happy with her (the van) and yes, i call her "the van" because im not some weird that calls their wheels a woman's name. (Well, not in front of anyone anyway. That is a secret between me and Uma... I mean, my van) 😀

Not sure yet what to do. Pondering :)
Lovely Chris and such a coincidence in that I just wrote a poem on the same subject CAR OF RUST you might want to take a look. Loved this poem Chris it spoke to me. It is highly sentimental and although quite literal it may be a metaphor as well. Love is a strange thing be it for object of person

You are most welcome Cris I will look forward to your read of that jalopy of a poem
First off, the fact that you have not only been driving, but have been in love with a Citroen, makes you an intriguing woman (but maybe I’m just biased due to the fact they are very rare here in the states, Citroens, not women). Next, being a real car person, I love a poem dedicated to a car. I truly love my current car a Golf R, but an early love was a turbo Saab. In your usual manner, which seems to be of such ease, you have illuminated an ordinary thing, imbued it with all those memories, and created a really great poem.
