Spare A Thought

Spare A Thought

A Poem by Chris Shaw

Sun beams play on pine cones
that litter dampened ground
beneath the tallest evergreens
a sea of bluebells found
intense in April sapphire
that matches skies of blue
spread wide throughout the woodland
a calming pleasant view

and then the sound of laughter
of children out of sight
from gardens shielded by a wall
eclipsing springtime light
how joyful in their living
stop listen give some thought
for all those little ones elsewhere
who can not play in clean fresh air
in zones of conflict caught

Such a soft scene you open with… and then that turn. It lands. Makes you breathe a little slower and remember how uneven the world can be.

Thank you Curly for sharing your thoughts.

The rhyme gives this a disjunctive jolt at the end. Well chosen.

Thank you Winston, pleased you noticed the deliberate jolt.

Fabulous Chris - yes Peace certainly makes far more sense than conflict - we should know how fortunate really we all are (touch wood). Exceptional ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
