The Future/Past Perfect

The Future/Past Perfect

A Poem by Chris Shaw

while parasites and sycophants fight
over the ruination of my once fine country
while freeloaders scavenge on its remains

i feel thunder in my heart
a torrent of tears flood the plains of my cheeks
for those who died for our freedom

the nameless whose measure stands
as tall as mountain summits
ever golden in the morning sun
ever peaceful in their selfless sacrifice

I'm with you in this - we are in need of heroes and not those with superhuman power but those with a heart to do what is right and it seems there is a gluten of all the wrong kind - hang on to hope and pray it's not in vain. -carl

This is excellent and can pertain to any country. Well done.

I don't know enough as I thought about its downfall so I'll get back to you on this one. Nevertheless, your words resound with sorrow and disappointment.

Chris, every country has its parasites and sycophants. We have to deal with them as we would with any poisonous snake living in our house.

The thunder you feel in your heart is patriotism, honor, and respect for those who died for our freedom!

However, you raise the nameless heroes with this finely written poem. Bringing recognition to their standing as tall as mountains in the morning sun, for giving us peace through their selfless sacrifice.
