Unshakeable

Unshakeable

A Poem by Chris Shaw

these days the world spins uneasy
teetering on its heavy axis

outside the piercing cries of a vixen
rent the starless night sky
calling for her cubs
relentless
wandering in the unknown
exploring away from home

i pause and reflect

maternal values can’t be bought
can’t be taught
yet here am i like that vixen
until the day I die

does a mother ever cut the umbilical cord
comewhat may
times happy or in discord
a mother first a mother last
that is my final word

A good mother's love is eternal. It's like an intuition she's born with to protect and, at times, worry about her children. And I believe a mother who has that kind of devotion has been given a gift. Especially when I see those mothers who are so degraded they would purposely take the lives of their own children...(Casey Anthony, Diane Downs....)

Have you ever seen a movie called the VVitch? It's only incidentally related... but I think folks over there would understand certain American insanities if they watched that movie. "Americans" have been insane since before this was called the USA. We are a mixture of the craziest parts of Europe. Think about how insane you'd have to be to sail across an ocean back then. Most of the people settling this land were desperate and unhinged. Thanks a lot... I blame the profiteerin' europeons for why I am living as and amongst unhinged people.

Hello Chris, your introduction of the vixen calling for her cubs is beautiful in itself but then you use it to speak of motherhood which I found wonderful. Your poem is very sad for me. My best friend recently lost her elder son, age 60, to a massive stroke. Her grief almost completely undid her. I hope you never suffer such trauma. I wish the best for you “mother.”

Chris,
The Bible says two lovers can become "one."And I've have felt that but it must pale in comparison to the oneness of one human being spinning another, complete with soul, mind and body inside themselves... I cannot even begin to imagine. WOW

Such truth set in poetic form. There is no other love like that of a mother and that umbilical cord is never cut. A most lovely poem Chris
