Broken

Broken

A Poem by Cathy
"

A poem I wrote recently, when I found out my ex-boyfriend was engaged.

"

Broken

Thanks to you, my heart was broken.

The shattered pieces left inside.

The words I wish to me you'd spoken...

Will now be said to your future bride.

There is this empty place within

Where once my heart beat just for you.

A vacant space where I'll begin

To understand what I must do.

What remedy can be prescribed

To heal the heart you hurt so much?

The pain it feels can't be described,

How can you heal what you can't touch?

I'm fighting back the urge to weep,

My pain's controlled; my secrets kept;

No surgeon's knife can cut as deep

As words you spoke the day you left.

Will there ever come a time

When I'll look up to see you there?

I think that it should be a crime,

To make someone feel such despair.

It almost feels like I'm in jail

A prisoner of love with no escape.

My better judgment must prevail

Or, I will be in much worse shape.

With judge and jury looking on

My sentence looms ahead of me.

Doomed to love someone who's gone;

It seems like an eternity.

The heart, I know can heal in time,

All it takes is someone new.

My search won't end until I find

I'm loved as much as I loved you.
