Love story?

Love story?

A Poem by C Cumby
"

Just a little poem that I wrote about love expectations and realities that I have experienced.

"

The movies make it seem so simple.
Falling in love because you share a class
or bump into each other on the street.

First date with a simple rose,
a movie,
and maybe a goodbye kiss.

And you believe them.

For a while, you truly believe
that one day you will run into someone in passing
and just fall in love like that.

But as the years pass,
you never bump shoulders with your “soulmate”,
you never drop your books
and suddenly he is there helping you.

Nothing.

The need for validation begins.
The need to be seen.

It starts with flirting over text with strangers.
Then someone asks for a pic.

You don’t want to disappoint, do you?

Delivered.

“Damn girl, show me more.”

Delivered.

The first time you see something
you didn’t ask for
is shocking.

Then you block him
when he asks for a little bit too much.

Itch scratched.

Until you feel lonely again.

But now you want more.

It builds like a habit
you don’t notice
until you can’t stop.

Like a drug.

Never-ending,
always begging
at the back of your mind.

But what they don’t see
is the fear.

Fear that it might actually become real.

The haunting idea
that he might actually want to know you.

What if he sees you
how you see yourself?

Slowly,
you get more and more bold.

Now you have been talking to one guy
for two weeks,

which is a lot
considering his intentions are clear.

He doesn’t want you.
He wants what you offer.

Now it’s different, though.

After so many years
of being wanted for what you offer,
maybe you finally want
to be wanted for you.

No matter how hard you try
to make him want more
than just a happy ending,

he isn’t changing.

You did meet him on Tinder after all.

The story is good. If you intended to write a poem, why did you write a paragraph instead of verses?
