Tomboy

Tomboy

A Poem by Autumn's Child
"

We have a bet. She must "be" a girl for one week. Today is day one......

"

She cried as I took each lock

twirled it around the brush

blew hot air on the wet strands

to create smooth framing curls.

     She whimpered as I pulled

the hair from her face

to reveal clear freckled skin

and bright shining eyes.

     She pleaded for her jeans

and a shapeless blue tee

as I marveled at her grace

in the summery black dress

that hung over long pants.

But she smiled at my wonderment

(and even snuck a glance in the mirror)

at the beauty she possessed,

a beauty I worked hard for

that came effortlessly to her

even when hidden

under the clothes of a boy.
