Why put the time the effort

In ensuring this broken smile

Of lies and deceit

Why care for me

In a way that demands reply

That creates a dependence for your affection

Which never fades past the moment glance of words

Why wonder if the tears still exist

If the fear still permeates

If the promises have faded beyond sight

Why care for me?

When there are others, better suitable

Less tainted, more open, that possess

A semblance of normalcy and socially acceptable desire

I read this and think of those that stayed with me when it just didn't seem socially acceptable. Maybe that's just in my head. I do like this.
