Dearest Sister,

Dearest Sister,

A Poem by ckm

Dearest   Sister,

When I was young I wanted to be you,

Admired, loved and popular.

When I was a teen I wanted to fly on wings

Just like you

Believing I was as good as you.

When I became a woman

I thought I had everything that you had

A loving family,

A successful career

A happy life.

But now, I realize

In the race to better you

I forgot your beauty lay in your heart

That loved me no less

I realize

The fear of never doing half as well as you

Was baseless.

Not because you were more talented

And I deprived

But because

I never tried hard enough.

Today,

When I step back into the room

Full of memories

Tears sting my eyes.

You tried to envelop me in your love

But I had shied away

In baseless jealousy.

Today, when I see you

I regret all the moments we have lost

Because I couldn’t accept your warmth.

Today, I am you

But I can’t share the joy of being you.

I wish, it weren’t true!
