it could be about the rice

as is customary

we waited until dawn

before butchering the bird.

we killed it

skinned it

cooked it

winged a prayer

before eating the bird.

with the quill of a feather

i did not scratch a shadow

of talon, nor crop

nor crow about the bird...

i only prised

a fibre of flesh

from the space between my teeth

which wasn’t there

before eulogising the bird:

an early riser.

dutiful lover.

worked well with sweet and sour

provided there was rice

I think its harder to destroy something if you have raised it , fed it, sang to it, and or watched it grow, nurtured it in some way. very hard if you loved it.

i like this...seems simple on the surface...like the old fashioned days of hunting, cleaning and cooking over an open fire---but as long as there was rice...like the needed supplement or adornment for the meal...although rice is such a basic food for sustenance...perhaps this is speaking of going back to the basics....we are so full of technology, micro-waves, short cuts...we need real...even if we get a feather in the mouth once in a while.

I appreciate your feedback, Jacob. Basic it is. I love the basics and feel happy that I don't have to "go back to" there. I would invite any one to make the turn-around, though. Sometimes going back might be the only to go forward. I'm sure that's very true in some respects. Cheers to you.
