"Together Breathe”

I look away when

You speak to me,

Trying to pretend that

I’m listening but I’m not,

I’m such a snot!

 

I’m in my head,

Thinking to myself

 

I’m holding on to

Your every word,

I want to play,

Wanting to please you,

Want to make sure that I say

Just that right thing

That you want me to say

Each day.

 

Where do we connect?

How do we meet

Each other’s needs?

How do we plant our seeds

And do good deeds?

How do we

Together breathe?

Communication is the basis to any good relationship and that requires listening as well as speaking one's mind...the narrator seems intent on preserving a relationship (wanting to say the right things) but ignores the fact that sometimes the best thing we can do for one another is just listen and understand...without the understanding required to listen the relationship becomes a recipe for failure. We have to listen...sometimes with our ears...always with our hearts. Just my thoughts.
