I Claim My Life

I Claim My Life

A Poem by Marie Harrison
"

A promise to myself.

"

I’ll Claim My Life

I stake my claim for my life

Fight for what’s my share

Take time to enjoy the spring air

Live my life for me not for the sake of others

Provide for myself because it’s my right

Build a better life for myself

Fulfill the goals that I’ve always had

Not live for others but live for my own will

Great work.

Wonderful, we all need to do this sometimes in our lives. Focus on ourselves and there's nothing wrong with that.

Again, I say, Woo-Hoo! Here's to you, girlfriend! I just love this wonderful, declarative piece!

You sound very determined and adamant with your goals.

It sounds as if this writer has no doubts, about how she intends to approach her life! Whilst reading, I had the impression that the protagonist is rather determined. Also, unlikely to compromise unless absolutely necessary? Of course, that would depend on the situation. In this piece, people are called "others", whilst there are no references to friends or family. However, this poem is trying to emphasise the concept of self and independence. Even so, I wondered if the writer has exaggerated these traits to some extent (on purpose or not)?
