Butterfly

Sinewy tissues

Hold me together

With all my might

My wings strive to fly

Each time I fail

My energy level weakens

The rich earthen thick mud

Holds my wings back

Dirty sludge of my surroundings

Ground trilobites of history

Drown my wings in sorrow

Author's Note

Marie Harrison
I was thinking about how our surroundings impact us all. Whether it's our own personal history or the impact of the our environment, both can impede our flight of life. Whether it's oil, pollution, sin, drugs, education and what we put into our bodies. Each decision or environmental phase will impact us or the future of our humanity's future. Humanity is tied to the earth no matter how we try to escape this fact.

We are easily dragged earthwards - but the butterfly can also fly free and taste the nectar of life
