To Be Different

To Be Different

A Poem by Chrissie C.
"

One woman's view on being disabled.

"

To Be Different

To be different is a

      hard task.

Because nobody asked

me if I wanted to be.

It’s hard to be different

      when you’re in a crowd.

To have people stare

      and even point.

The hardest thing to handle

      about being different is

that you can’t live it down.

Wherever you go,

      whatever you do,

         people always stare at you.

Especially, when people can't see the disability. Thinking that you are faking to get attention for yourself. Having learning disabilities, people think that it limited to a very narrow area. Never realizing that their attitude is patronizing and hurtful to the person, of their pity. Thank you for expressing your honest feeling and sharing them with us, in your poem.
