Silence

Silence

A Story by Chloe

You could hear your heart beat if the silence wasn't so loud.  The day was as if the moon would never rise as a sign of the end.  Everyone was in mystery of who would shoot first. Sweat dripped down everyone's face to see if anyone was flinching or preparing to put the battle into action.  The battle had begun, but no one could gather enough courage to get the bullets flying.

This all was just beginning.  The only thing people here wanted was the silence to be diminished and for this to all be over so we could wake up from this horrible dream that we all have to make it through.

As I looked around to view my surroundings, I realized that the silence wasn't surrounding just me.  This terrible silence engulfed everyone and everything around me.  All of the soldiers fighting on both sides and even the trees that encased the battlefield were centered by this loud and interminable silence.
What are we here for?  Why do we really have to fight?  The silence made me think deeply.  In less than an hour a fourth and possibly even a half of us would be dead.

What really frightened me was that the next person lying on the ground might just be me.
Suddenly, there was an outburst of sound that came from the opposing side.  The first shot had been fired.
I lifted my rifle and began to join everyone else in this life or death battle.  The only thing I could hope for was the best and that we wouldn't lose too many soldiers to this bloody battle.
Before I knew it, the soldiers that were standing next to me were on the ground looking lifeless.
Out of nowhere I saw a bullet flying towards me.  I had no time to dodge it and I could see my life flash before my eyes.  I was hit from what only felt inches from my heart. Dead.
