Red Rain

Red Rain

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

I remember the way the rain hit the

Ground

With that soft shushing noise

The way the brakes squealed

I love the smell of rain

On hot tarmac

But it was hidden under

The acrid scent of

Burning rubber

You lay on the road

For a moment

Under the bus

Blood seeping out

Running down the

Street

Joining with the rain

To form those

Crimson Rivers

It looked like the bus was leaking

Red blood

To match

The red

Double

Decker

Everything I looked at

Seemed to turn

Red

I was vaguely aware of

Someone screaming

And people

Gaping

Vomiting

Crying

Shouting

Dialling

For an ambulance

I just stood

In the

Rain

The Red Rain

Watching your head

Snap around again

 And again

As the bus

Slammed into your body

I kept hearing the way

Your laughter stopped

So abruptly

Dying

In your throat

Like you suddenly

Realised

It wasn’t funny

Anymore

Like you suddenly found

The joke

Was on you

What a sick joke that turned out to be.
