The EscapeA Poem by Cassidy MaskWritten in an English Lesson
Cold fingers Held the glass Froze it In place (In time) She looked away From the mirror (A memory she didn’t want) Searching for the key It hung above her Glinting cruelly Just out of reach But she stretched up On pointed toes Longing to unlock the past (The future) So that she might escape it (Escape it all) She closed her eyes Her fingers finally closing Around the cool metal But in her hand The key became a blade And toward her heart It reached Whispering ‘I am the escape.’ © 2008 Cassidy Mask |
