Death Of A Pyromaniac

Death Of A Pyromaniac

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

With earphones in

You didn’t hear

The sirens

Or the crackling fire

As it tore the house down

With eyes closed

You didn’t see

            The flames

As they licked the air

Around your bed

With mind closed

You didn’t feel

            The pain

As your body melted

Like a little man of jelly

Inside your head

Everything was a tumble

Of sound

You didn’t notice that

(Outside your head)

The world was crumbling

It was the smell

That finally alerted you

To the burning

But I guess you were

Too far gone by then

Because you merely

Smiled serenely

As though death

Was an old friend

Paying you a

(Pleasantly)

Unexpected visit

It wasn’t till after

When all was still

Once more

Inside

(What remained of)

The house

That the lighter was found

Held tightly

In your charred hand

Your greatest love

(Your greatest demise)
