Breaking (My Promise)

Breaking (My Promise)

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

I think I'm dying.

You said.

But I denied it,

You’re not

You’re not

I promise…

I think I’m dying

But now your voice is

A more distant

Murmur,

Fading back

Into the depths

Of my memory.

You’re not

But you were.

And I broke my promise

That day

A promise made,

Even as I watched

The crimson

Blossom

Across your white shirt.

You’re not

I promise…

But I knew,

I knew before I said

The words,

That they were a lie.

I knew then,

As I promised

The opposite,

That you were going to die.

But I said it anyway:

I promise…
