For Want Of Integrity

For Want Of Integrity

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

Blackened feathers

And twisted wings,

You were never one

For the truth.

Sapphire irises

And petal lips,

Honour was just another

Word for weakness.

Skeletal limbs

And starvation diets,

Honesty was always

A lose-lose situation.

Frozen heart

And deceitful words,

A game you won

Only too easily.

I merely wished

It could be different,

I was never fool enough

To believe.

The last four lines powerfully conclude this poem of vivid images and sentiments. Every word is essential, and you accomplish much with few words. The structure keeps the poem moving forward, drawing the reader along. Good job!
