The Glacial Welcome Of A Fallen Sky

The Glacial Welcome Of A Fallen Sky

A Chapter by Cassidy Mask
"

Girl POV.

"

There was no air between the earth and the sky, and the gases that filled my lungs were frozen and foul tasting. Chemicals were constantly pumped into the atmosphere by huge super-factories that covered vast areas, the size of old cities, and as I walked I breathed them in.

Down near-empty high streets I trudged, past a street preacher warning of the imminent end, and of the only saviour. Jesus was long forgotten though, and despite this man’s liberator being called Messiah that was just the name of the next super-drug, the newest release, great for stress, headaches, usual life depression, and euthanasia.

Snappy slogans had died out long ago, no could be bothered with stupid rhymes that made you want to commit murder, just for the annoying happiness they implied. Nowadays people went for whatever was strongest, best for knocking you out for a couple of hours, cheapest, or least cheerful.

That was the way of the world since the sky had fallen.
