Not What You Had In Mind

Not What You Had In Mind

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

Tell me Prince

What did you expect?

Some beauty

With eyes like

Precious stones?

Well you found slate

(They’re still rocks after all)

Tell me Dear

What did you think?

That I would fall

At your polished toes

Dignity the only virtue

That I lacked?

(But then - what good is a woman standing tall?)

Tell me Love

What did you want?

A fragile thing

All pale and slim

Waiting weakly to be saved

From some peril?

(After all a damsel is incomplete without distress)

Tell me Prince

            My Dear

            My Love

Was I not what you had in mind?
