Explosions Of The Mind

Explosions Of The Mind

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

The lake was frozen

The first time we met

We stared at our still reflections

Wondering if they would last

Now the ice has melted

The lake is beautiful

But my reflection

Staring back at me

Is alone

And the ripples

On the surface

Are stretching my being

Into broken fragments

These explosions

Of the mind

Are going to cost me

But I can’t help

Wishing

That you still rippled beside me

When I stare into

Those sparkling waters

These explosions

Of the mind

Are going to cost me

But I hate admitting

To weaknesses

And so instead

I’ll turn my back on them…

The lake today

Is so beautiful

And when I reach down

To pluck a fallen emerald

Leaf

From its surface

I fall

My hands are the first to connect.

They reach out

The heels of my palms

Pushing straight through

The surface.

My arms follow of course.

And then my face

Meets with the cool water.

A look of bliss

Meeting with a liquid wall.

The lake was frozen

The first time we met

We stared at our still reflections

Wondering if they would last
