MomentA Poem by Cassidy Mask
There’s blood on your face It drips slowly (Painfully slow) From your temple Into your eyes The hollow dripping Too loud in my ears. (I’m dreaming) (I’ve got to be dreaming) I can’t move my arms They’re pinned down By twisted metal And bits of dashboard But I’ve got to reach you Got to wake you. (You’re dreaming) (We both are) I’m bleeding too. Red is seeping through The fabric of my clothes, Down one thigh, And across my chest, Where the other car Entered Through the windscreen (I can’t see the driver) (But the passengers face Is a red smudge In my peripheral vision) (A small red smudge) (A child…?) I can just move my head But my back and neck Are stiff and pain Stabs up my spine. (Wake up) (Please wake up) The blood’s spread now Your whole head Is covered with it And it’s seeping across Whatever is now down. If I could just reach you Everything would be okay But you’re still and silent And I can’t move my arms. (I’m so sorry) (Wake up. Wake up, please.) I can hear sirens now But the fact seems irrelevant (I need you to wake up) I’ve been kidding myself And if they can’t help you I don’t care if they’re here Or not. (I’m sorry) (I’m so, so sorry) They’re moving bits of car now And my right arm comes free. It’s too little too late But I reach out anyway And take your pale white hand. Mine is bloody And I can’t look at the red Which is visible Through a large gash in my arm But I hold on tight Willing you to take me with you (Please. Please. Please.) The blood loss Is getting to me now My head spins My eyes unfocused (I love you. I love you. I love you.) A moment ago We were driving down the highway The rain blinding But beautiful And I looked across at you Your smiling face. (I love you. I love you. I love you.) I didn’t see the car in front As it spun As it flipped As it slowed But I felt it as we collided. (I love you. I love you. I love you.) A moment ago We were happy We were well We were living (I love you. I love you. I love you.) It only took a moment. (The blood’s getting to me now) One single moment. (I love you.) (I’m so sorry.) © 2009 Cassidy Mask |
