Snowchild

Snowchild

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

Small hands

Hidden in gloves

Open to the sky

And to snow

And white flakes

Catching on dark lashes

And brushing smooth skin

Cold cheeks tinged pink in the wind

And blond curls escaping

From beneath woollen hat

Dancing in wellingtons

With head tilted back

Catching precipitation

On the tongue

Lost balance

And falling

Landing on bum

In deep white

Snow angels proceed

In abundance

Small body

Wriggling

As ice slips down back

Wrapped tight

In a cocoon of clothes

Movement impaired

As short arms and legs

Form angel wings

In snow

Then numb hands

And mothers voice

And wellington clad feet

Running into house

In front of fire

Dry clothes

And hot chocolate

Drooping eyes

As sleep approaches

Child of snow

Melting before dancing flames

Dreaming of falling white

And feathered wings
