Flat Lemonade

Flat Lemonade

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

Rain pelts

Cold skin

And I’m drowning on my feet

Stood here in the street

The skies are black above

Like the soul inside

A thunder storm

That rages

Outside and in

Raindrops

Tap out their

Thunderous applause

All around me

And I’m spinning

Dizzy

Trying to catch every drop

In my palms

As I stare up at a relentless sky

The water droplets

Fall between my parted lips

And I find they are sweet

Like flat lemonade

If this is drowning

I’d like to do it again some time

My hair is plastered to my face

And I can feel my makeup run

Black tears

Mingling with the clear rain

I kick off my heels

And my feet

Inside my tights

Feel the wet warmth of the tarmac

I’m wearing a smart suit

But the rain has soaked through

And every inch of me

Is dripping wet

I pull off the jacket

Letting it fall

To the floor by my shoes

I walk away through the rain

Drowning my blackened soul

In flat lemonade

If this is drowning

I’d like to do it again some time…
